Tallgrass is home to more than just parrots.
Our pastures are filled with a variety of rescued critters.
Heated barns, a pond and a host of ammenities

Meet some of our furred, hooved, feathered & scaled friends!
CrestieI'm a little Crested Duck that just appeared in the barnyard one day. I love it here, but being "dumped" made me a little skittish. I like to hide way up high when I lay my eggs so no one can find them. ... I'm just shy like that ... | ButtonI'm called Button because I am "Cute as a Button." I'm just learning how to walk in this picture and will grow up to be a big girl one day. Good thing I live in the Tallgrass barnyard where I'll have all the fresh grass I could want every single day. | KevinI'm a 17 year old African Spur-Thighed Tortoise. My first humans knew I was gonna weigh about 200 pounds, but when I hit 50 pounds they realized just how big that actually was. They decided it was better for me to live in the Tallgrass barnyard where I have all the room to roam a big guy like me could ever need. Check out some of my videos on our Facebook page to see how much I love playing with all my new friends. |

MouseThis picture was taken when I was a baby and first moved to Tallgrass after someone found me wandering on the street. I was super-crazy sick when the Friends of Animals, Inc. took me in and brought me for my first vet visit. Today -- over $3,000 later -- I'm an Irish Wolfhound/Great Pyrenees cross who weighs more than 110 pounds. I watch over my human and animal friends at Tallgrass. Nothing - and no one - gets past me! | Buddy & CleoI'm Buddy, and that's my Mommy, Cleo, behind me. I'm a rather rare primary-white Nubian Pygmy Goat. I know this sounds a little vain, but think I'm stunning, if I do say so myself. I know I'm special cuz the humans at Tallgrass like to snuggle with me every chance they get. | Parker (aka: Peter Porker)Some nice people in uniforms came and took me away from the first house I lived in because my humans weren't very nice. Then a nice lady named Emily gave me a home for a little while. When she found Tallgrass, I got to come and live here where I get all the love a piggy could ever want. ... Ooooo ... A little to the left, please ... |
Coo-Coo ClanWe are the Coo-Coo Clan. There are actually 8 of us Ringneck Doves, but we wouldn't all sit still for a picture. We used to live in tiny cages in classrooms, but the people at Tallgrass are building us our very own coop! Whoohoo! | Loosey Goosey GirlsWe're the Loosey Goosey Girls - Loud and proud - And not one bit ashamed of it! After all, someone has to keep these slacker ducks in line. Luckily for the folks at Tallgrass, we're just the gals to do it! | SpeedyMy name is Speedy. My Mom was pregnant with me when she was abandoned by her first human who was tired of having goats. When the good people of Tallgrass found out he was going to sell me to the butcher they decided Mom and I should come and live with them. Boy, am I glad that made that decision! |
Boy George (& the Ladies)I'm Boy George, that good lookin' guy in the background. I have a rare bone disease, so my humans drive me to a specialty vet clinic 40 miles away 3 times a week for shots. Even though I'm a little less than physically perfect, I'm still the best lookin' rooser in Kansas! Look at how much the ladies love me! | MaudeI'm Maude. My first family didn't know the best foods to feed me, so I developed metabolic bone disease. But at Tallgrass I get all the sunlight and fresh veggies a tortoise could ever hope for. In fact, I've shown the humans here that they can't leave anything yummy laying around or I WILL get into it. | Beatrice (aka: Pig Newton)My first family didn't know what to do with me when I wasn't a tiny baby anymore, so they let me come and live at Tallgrass. Here I have a pond to wallow in and other animals to play with. Did I mention that I love it here! |
